Activity 11 - Measuring - Solstices Results
Solstices - Solstices were very important for ancient cultures.
Measure the Sun’s altitude as it crosses the meridian on the solstices using a gnomon. Particularly for the winter solstice weather may be an issue. Luckily enough the equation of time isn’t very different for a few days on either side of it you can do the measurements anytime within the week.
I did this exercise while doing the Analemma Observing Program. Here is the picture of my year long analemma with the winter solstice (labeled W.S.) and summer solstice (labeled S.S.):

Do you notice anything about the difference between the two elevations?
I noticed the difference betweeh the two elevations that not only are they a log way apart from each other, they are on opposite sides of the centerline of the gnomon.
