July 28

There was a brisk wind from east. I setup my laptop in the front seat of my truck. With the door closed, I could easily see the screen through the window. I put my logbook and eyepieces in the back seat. I took my reading glasses also which made it easier to write legibly with red light.

You can see the smoke haze to the north in this picture.

Looking south from the observing site near the gate of the DSS where Joe Gafford sets up his quipment. I setup here to get a lower southern horizon to see the objects I was interested in.

It was predicted to be more hazy tonight from smoke drifting in from wildfires in California and Canada. Fortunately, the forecast was wrong. It was a clear, beautiful night to observe.

I setup south of Berthoud to record the Sun and Venus positions with respect to the setting sun with my quadrant.

The sky was predicted to be clear. These clouds hounded me after sunset. This is looking north.
